One of our favorite programs to do is the BUG program.  BUG is an acronym for “Bring Up Grades”.  The Jones Kiwanis Club partners with the 4th grade class at Jones Elementary School to award students who have brought up their subject scores at least one letter grade.  This program doesn’t care whether the grade was a D brought to a C or a B brought to an A.  And the students who started and kept an A receive the same award certificate.

All students who receive this award have their names put into a “hopper”.  One girl and one boy name is drawn to win a bike.  While it is very exciting to give away a bike, it warms our hearts to see the kids give each other applause when passing out their certificates.
